Winsford United 2, Silsden 0

SILSDEN finished tenth in the North West Counties League Premier Division despite a final-day defeat at mid-table rivals Winsford United.

The Cobbydalers had a scratch side out but that handed invaluable experience to three of the reserve side and some of the young squad players. They went into the game in tenth place and they held on to it as neighbouring rivals Nelson failed to win at home.

Winsford had a very good chance to break the deadlock in the 20th minute but, as a looping through ball fell to Danny Egan, he was crowded out. Matt Moses headed off the line soon after and keeper Danny Thorpe performed heroics later in the goalless first half.

Winsford wrapped up the game with two goals in a four-minute spell just after the hour-mark. Silsden created a good opening in the 58th minute when Ryan Haigh and Craig Nicholls combined to provide Josh Metcalfe with a chance but his shot from a tight angle was well saved.

Minutes later Egan opened the scoring and Liam Baker headed Winsford into a two-goal lead.
