SILSDEN joint manager Ryan Haigh took positives from his side's first pre-season outing despite them being on the wrong end of a 7-3 goal-fest.

A crowd of over 300 witnessed the visit of League One Fleetwood's academy side at the Angel Telecom Stadium on Monday.

And though the full-time youngsters proved too good, Haigh was pleased with the Cobbydalers' first workout.

He said: "It was all right against a well-drilled development side.

"They were very good and the difference in fitness showed between a full-time side and one training two or three times a week.

"But we didn't embarrass ourselves and held our own for periods of the game.

"It was a good workout. We showed we can get in behind with pace going forward."

Silsden, including several new faces, only trailed 2-1 early in the second half before Town ran away with it, though Chris Wademan pulled two late goals back.

Haigh, who is in charge alongside Danny Bolton, gave special mention to left back Johnson Butterfield, Stevie Smith, who played in the hole, and frontman Wademan for impressive displays.

He said Butterfield and Smith were one of a number of Guiseley under-19 players likely to feature for Silsden this season.

Haigh added that Fleetwood may return for another friendly during the campaign.

Silsden step up their preparations by hosting Liversedge on Saturday and visiting Thackley next Wednesday.
