West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Reserves 5, Otley Town Reserves 1

OXENHOPE Reserves got their campaign off to a flying start, Joel Gallagher opening their account when he broke through the visitors’ defence and lobbed the keeper.

Ten minutes later, Gaz Ritson broke into the box and was brought down, skipper Chris Day confidently slotting home the spot kick, and Sean Quinlan nearly added a third when his inswinging corner hit the crossbar.

Soon after half-time, however, Quinlan delivered another flighted corner which found Craig Morris on the edge of the box, and his shot went into the net despite a crowded penalty area.

Oxenhope keeper Sam Lee then got caught out trying to dribble his way past advancing Otley striker Will Waistell and was punished.

But midway through the second period, another accurate Quinlan corner was glanced in off the head of the advancing Gallagher for his second. Late on, player-manager James Bailey stroked in a free-kick from the edge of the box to complete a very one-sided contest.

On Saturday, the reserves entertain Headingley Reserves at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm).
