SILSDEN booked their passage into the second qualifying round of the FA Vase with a 3-1 home victory over Northern League Division Two visitors Thornaby.

The Cobbydalers' opponents are unbeaten in their competition but their knockout form is suspect as they had already been dumped out the FA Cup before exiting the other national competition at the Angel Telecom Stadium.

The home side squandered chances in the first half but Chris Wademan did break the deadlock midway through that period.

Thornaby improved in the second half but Craig Nicholls doubled the hosts' lead in the 68th minute and any hope of a late comeback, after Matty Moses' own goal made it 2-1 five minutes from time, were finally quashed when Wademan grabbed his second just into stoppage time.

THACKLEY face a long journey north on Tuesday night as they head to Whickham for a replay after 120 minutes of football at Dennyfield failed to separate the sides.

Both sides put the effort in over 90 minutes and in extra time but neither could make the breakthrough and the tie remained goalless.

ALBION SPORTS made the short trip to Garforth Town in the first qualifying round and a first-half collapse saw them lose 4-1 against their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division rivals.

Danny Harris put the Miners in front midway through the first half and Ashley Preece and Mark Simpson added further goals before the break.

Any hopes of a second-half fight back from Albion were scuppered when Luke Mangham netted a penalty straight after the interval.

Albion skipper Asif Hussain finally scored a consolation, also from the penalty spot, nine minutes from time.

ECCLESHILL UNITED and LIVERSEDGE also exited the competition as they were both beaten at home by Northern League Division Two opponents.

Luke Harrop and Jermaine Springer scored equalisers for Eccleshill as the Eagles matched Heaton Stannington for goals in the first half but the visitors went on to win 4-2 with two second-half strikes.

Sedge went down 4-1 at Clayborn to a determined Team Northumbria side, Tom Brook netting for the home side eight minutes from time.
