West Yorkshire League Premier Division: Oxenhope 1 Wetherby 1
OXENHOPE should have claimed all three points from this fixture but they failed to take their chances.
The home side were on top from the whistle when a well-worked Dan Moriarty corner saw Ollie Metcalfe's strike from the edge of the box tipped round the post.
On 20 minutes Oxenhope took the lead when a long ball was flicked on by Chris Day into the path of Tom Marshall. He took the ball past his marker and set up Moriarty, who lashed home from a tight angle. The home side continued to dominate but the final pass was lacking.
After the break Wetherby came more into the game, forcing a good double save from Sam Lee. However, an ill-timed error by Lee and defender Will Wells was seized upon by a Wetherby striker for the equaliser.
Oxenhope regained their composure but chances came and went, the best when Leon Smith dinked the ball over the keeper and, with the goal at his mercy, inexplicably flicked the ball wide.
Oxenhope have no game this Saturday. The following week they start their defence of the prestigious County Cup that they won back in April.
Oxenhope: Lee S, Wells, McNicol, Lee W (Nelson), Metcalfe, Kaine, Smith, Moriarty, Day (Hopkinson), Quinlan, Marshall.
Alliance Division One: Brighouse Reserves 1 Oxenhope Reserves 4
Oxenhope’s second string maintained their unbeaten run from the start of the season in the top flight of the West Yorkshire Reserves League with a 4-1 victory over Brighouse Reserves. Craig Morris grabbing a brace plus strikes from Gaz Ritson and Andy Fox. This Saturday they entertain Robin Hood Reserves at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm).
