West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One

Oxenhope Reserves 2 Robin Hood Reserves 1

Oxenhope maintained their unbeaten start with a hard-fought victory over Robin Hood Reserves, who were one place below them in the league.

Craig Morris and Andy Fox went close before the hosts took the lead when young Owen Williamson beat the offside trap and, one-on-one with the keeper, held his nerve to slot home.

The visitors responded by piling on the pressure, with stand-in keeper Steve Davies pulling off an unbelievable triple save.

After the break, the home side doubled their advantage. Sam Murphy burst down the right, beat his marker and produced the perfect cross for Fox to power home a header.

Robin Hood resorted to physical tactics in the final quarter but Oxenhope were determined to hold on to the points and were only denied a clean sheet when the visitors claimed a consolation goal in the final minute.

On Saturday, the reserves hope to maintain their 100 per cent record when they entertain East End Park Reserves at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm).

* All Premier Division fixtures were cancelled as the West Yorkshire League representative side beat the Yorkshire Amateur League 4-1 in the FA Inter League Cup at County Headquarters in Woodlesford. Last season’s Oxenhope player of the year Tom Marshall appeared in the winning line-up.

This Saturday, Oxenhope start their defence of the County Cup with a tricky opening tie at Halifax League Premier Division side Ryburn United (2pm).
