POLONIA, who aren't pulling any trees up in the Skipton Body Repair Centre Second Division, were the giant-killers in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy last Saturday.

They won their second-round tie 4-1 at First Division leaders Pendle Renegades to book an eminently winnable last-16 tie at AFC Barnoldswick, with the Third Division strugglers triumphing 4-3 at their sectional leaders Hellifield.

Man of the match Mirdstaw Bak (2), Miroslaw Maziarz and substitute Maciej Zoltek were the scorers for the Poles.

Almost joining Polonia in the third round as upset merchants were Oxenhope Recreation's third team, who are sixth in the First Division but only lost 3-2 at Premier Division leaders Grassington United following extra-time.

The home side took the lead on the half-hour direct from a free-kick but the underdogs started the second half the brighter, both Joel Gallagher and Tony Cooper hitting the woodwork before Ben Manning smashed the ball into the top corner following a one-two with Joe Cutler.

It was still 1-1 after 90 minutes but United netted twice in extra-time before Oxenhope hit back when Paul Quinlan cut inside and curled the ball into the top corner.

Quinlan had a great chance to take the game to penalties but was denied by a wonderful last-ditch tackle when through on goal in the final minute.

There was the potential for an upset in the first-round tie between Second Division leaders Manningham All Stars and top-flight Silsden Whitestar but the visitors were having none of it, winning 6-0 with goals from Sam Stanfield (5) and James Wilson.

They will now host Skipton Town, while the all-Second Division clash between Broomhill and Carleton was predictably close, Andrew Tanner netting for Broomhill in a 2-1 home defeat.

Sporting Keighley also dodged a bullet, with the lower-table First Division side beating visitors Otley Town, who are second in the Third Division, 3-2.

Man of the match Alhassaine Kelta (2) and Mohammed Ammer got the goals for Sporting, who are now at home to Premier Division Cross Hills in round two, with the latter defeating visitors Ingrow & Worth Valley 2-0.

Wilsden Athletic comfortably won their derby 5-1 at Bingley Town but there were defeats for Bradley (12-1 at home to Rolls) and Cowling (1-0 at AFC Colne).
