Thackley 2 Silsden 3

WAYNE Morrison netted a ten minute hat-trick to clinch Silsden's place in the semi-finals of the West Riding County Cup.

Morrison's goals – his first for the club – have secured a tie against National League North side Harrogate Town, who beat Barnoldswick Town 6-1 on Tuesday night.

Playing their first game for a fortnight, Silsden started brightly at Dennyfield. Charlie Collinge fired an early shot over the bar.

The game was extremely open with both sides creating chances. Silsden keeper Ed Hall had to save from Ben Beckles while Elliot Firth had to be alert to halt a dangerous run from Joe Brown.

Silsden went ahead after 34 minutes. Thackley's substitute keeper Matt Keen had only been on the field nine minutes when he fumbled a shot from Chris Wademan and Morrison pounced to tap the ball home.

Morrison netted his second goal two minutes later with a low right-foot drive.

Keen produced a fine save to deny Morrison a minute later and produced an even better effort after Wademan dribbled through the home defence, diving at the striker's feet and then making an even better save when Wademan dribbled through the home defence.

Pat McGuire fired a free-kick wide for Thackley before Morrison completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute. He followed up to score after Keen had saved from Wademan.

If Silsden thought the game was effectively over, they were in for a shock. Tom Dugdale finished off a slick passing move early in the second half to lift the home side.

The Cobbydalers, who had to replace Firth with Jack Brooks after he suffered a knock, tired on the heavy pitch but they still had the odd break away.

Substitute Matty Moses made a good run down the right but Wademan shot wide when the ball was slid across. With a minute left, Ben Cohen pulled a second goal back.

Silsden manager Ryan Haigh was delighted with the win. He said: “It was great to see Wayne finally break his duck. Hopefully there will be more to come. We weren't at our best but it was good to get a win under our belt.

"On Saturday we travel to Nelson and then entertain AFC Blackpool (in the Men United Cup third round) on Tuesday. We need to build on this result to get some vital league points.”
