West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Reserves 4 Horbury Town Reserves 0

Oxenhope Reserves transferred their game to the artificial surface at Marley to ensure they got a game in – and the move paid off as they extended their winning run to 15 league games.

In a pulsating fixture that saw both sides play all-out attacking football, Oxenhope were comfortable victors over fourth-placed Horbury to go 12 points clear at the top as rivals Beeston didn't play.

The home side went on the offensive from the off, a Danny Driver free-kick drifting just wide and a Craig Morris cross being taken off Driver’s head by the keeper.

The leaders – who never let their opponents settle – went close again when Liam Blacka's header from another Driver free-kick was turned away and Morris' effort hit the side-netting following the resulting corner.

Horbury came more into the game but Oxenhope grabbed the lead on the half-hour. Morris set up Chris Day, who beat his marker and drilled the ball past the keeper from a tight angle.

They doubled the lead ten minutes later when Liam Dyson played in the advancing Scott Nelson, who took the ball round two defenders before placing a measured pass for Driver to finish clinically.

At the break the influential Ben White was replaced by Will Lee after sustaining a nasty leg injury. The second half continued at a relentless pace. Morris headed against the bar following a corner and Lee just missed from long-range.

Oxenhope extended their lead when good play between Day and the hard-working Connor Madden presented Driver with his second goal.

Sub Joel Gallagher tested the keeper with a snap shot that the keeper diverted with his legs and Madden played in Gallagher but his chip over the keeper drifted narrowly wide.

On 80 minutes the icing was put on the cake with a stunning individual goal from Dyson, who had been a constant threat down the left flank all afternoon. He swerved past two defenders and cut into the edge of the box before producing an exquisite lob over the keeper.

Horbury were not finished, Oxenhope keeper Nick Hudson makinga fingertip save to maintain a clean sheet.

This Saturday the reserves face another stern test at third-placed Robin Hood (2.30pm).

Oxenhope first-team’s game at Wetherby was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They host Robin Hood’s first team on Saturday (2.30pm).
