Silsden Dragons 5 Oulton 0

DRAGONS roared into the finals of the West Yorkshire Ladies League Shield with an emphatic victory. Sophie Gaines and Nicola Frankland were soon bossing the midfield and utilised the pace of birthday girl Jess Buck and the athleticism of Lily Davies down the flanks to get behind the Oulton defence.

The breakthrough came after 23 minutes when Elly Field left two defenders floundering in her wake before slotting a neat pass into the intelligent run of Sophie Wood who netted.

The introduction of Mel Houldsworth just before half time provided a new challenge for Oulton to consider and it was from her corner that Field slotted the second goal just after the break.

The game was put beyond any doubt when Christina Aston was unleashed down the left wing and played an inch-perfect pass to Field who once again danced past the bewildered defence before pulling the ball back for Wood to score.

A superb through ball from Frankland released Houldsworth who spun and turned the ball in off the post for the goal her efforts had deserved.

Laura Thurling in the Silsden goal had virtually nothing to do but stayed alert to pull off an outstanding save.

The game finished on a high note when Wood, who had worked tirelessly all afternoon, latched onto another through ball from Field to round the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net to complete her hat-trick.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night in a re-arranged league game.
