Premier Division

Horbury Town 3 Oxenhope 0

OXENHOPE took a scratch team to fourth-placed Horbury Town, including four of their under-18 squad, and were defeated 3-0 in their West Yorkshire League Premier Division clash.

The home side dominated the first quarter but were kept at bay by some resolute defending and brave saves by keeper Sam Lee.

Oxenhope gradually got into the game and had a string of corners and free kicks two of which Dan Scott got his head but narrowly missing the target.

Horbury went ahead after 30 minutes when Lamin Bojang headed past keeper Lee from a free kick.

Then just before the break another free kick saw Horbury’s Kieran Corley extend the lead.

Dan Scott and Lewis Hopkinson went close for Oxenhope before Bojang rounded two defenders and keeper Lee to make it 3-0. Oxenhope travel to Hunslet on Saturday (2.30pm).

Alliance Division One

Beeston Reserves 3 Oxenhope Reserves 2

OXENHOPE'S run of 18 straight wins came to an end in a thrilling clash with their Alliance Division One title rivals.

Steve Davies had already made a couple of blocks before Beeston went ahead when one of their midfielders lobbed the Oxenhope keeper.

Beeston extended their lead with a header from a corner and Oxenhope suffered another setback when striker Craig Morris was carried off with a bad ankle injury.

Ross Chapman had a goal disallowed before Ben White reduced the deficit with a bullet header.

After the break Oxenhope started to get the upper hand with young Owen Williamson a constant threat down the right. He played the ball to Joe Jalil who drove into the box and pulled it back for Chris Day who took a couple of touches before slotting it past the keeper for the equaliser.

Both sides pushed for the win and it was Beeston who snatched the three points. Davies stopped a home striker with a timely tackle but the ball fell to a supporting player who lobbed it into the net.

All is still to play for with Beeston needing to win all their three games in hand while Oxenhope have seven games still to play, the first of which is at Pool on Saturday (2.30pm).
