Amaranth 0 Silsden Development 1

Silsden got off to a good start against high-flying Amaranth, winning several corners and going close.

Midfielders Kate Perfect and Megan Robson Owens launched attack after attack but a goal would not come.

Silsden brought on experienced midfielder Vicky Williamson and Gemma Scott Jones. Williamson was inches away from latching on to a well-delivered corner.

It was goalless at the break but Amaranth looked a different side in the second half, coming close after a well-taken corner rattled Silsden's bar. Minutes later an Amaranth striker foreced a fine save from keeper Laura Thurling.

Amaranth came close on two other occasions but Silsden kept them out thanks to solid defending from Becca Brown and her team-mates. At the other end, Lauren Adams had numerous attempts on goal.

The hosts came close again when a well-driven 30-yard free-kick was courageously saved by Thurling. A draw looked on the cards but, in the 86th minute, Scott-Jones made a great pass to a Silsden striker, who slotted home the winner.

The match point was shared between Jordan Whiteley and Kourtnai Broughton.

Victory lifted Silsden to second place in Division Three and came on the back of a 2-1 success over leaders Wigton Moor the previous week.

It was Moor's first league defeat of the season, with the Cobbydalers having to come from behind after an early goal from the visitors.

Silsden hit back hard when a well-delivered corner courtesy of Megan Robson Owens was blasted home by striker Hollie Kirtley to make it 1-1 by the break.

Kirtley then got the winner with four minutes left with a great free-kick.

The match point went to Naomi Di Franco.
