West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: East End Park Reserves 0 Oxenhope Rec Reserves 2

OXENHOPE’S second string came out on top at a side where previously they had had limited success.

On 20 minutes they got their noses in front. Chris Day received the ball on the edge of the box, cut inside his marker and evaded a lunging tackle before slotting in.

The home side raised their game but could not find their way through a well-organised defence.

The second half swung from end to end as Day, Sam Murphy and Ross Chapman all went close. East End broke down the right, firing in a looping shot with two of their strikers bearing down on it at the back post but keeper Sam Lee, at full stretch, made a single-handed catch.

The points were safe when skipper Dayne Ward intercepted the ball and played a midfield-splitting pass into the path of Day, who surged past two defenders and beating the keeper. This Saturday the reserves have no game but travel to Hunslet on Monday (6.30pm).

Field Reserves 1 Oxenhope Rec Reserves 3

A tough mid-week fixture at local rivals Field saw Rec claim another scalp in their title push.

Nick Hudson made two top-drawer saves before the deadlock was broken on the half-hour mark. Williamson beat his marker but was pulled down and, from the resulting free-kick, Driver curled his shot around the wall and into the top right corner. They made it 2-0 when Driver delivered an inch-perfect corner and Steve Davies headed home.

A long-range effort saw Field pull one back in the second half but Oxenhope regained their two-goal cushion when Day flicked the ball to the far post for Driver to hammer in his second.
