Wetherby Ladies 1 Silsden Ladies 5

THE DRAGONS were quickly into their stride when a slick ball from Lily Davies found Elly Field, who turned and set Stacey Wood through to score with an unstoppable shot.

Silsden continued to press, with Davies showing her versatility with her raids down the right flank. However, the visitors were dealt a bad blow in the 25th minute when she went to ground in agony after chasing a superb through ball from Charlene Hutchinson. Davies was forced to leave the pitch and was replaced by Lauren Adams.

Striker Mel Houldsworth, who was named player of the match, also joined the fray and didn't take long to make her presence felt. A short corner with Jess Buck allowed Houldsworth to turn and power home a shot.

A through ball by captain Sophie Gaines just failed to reach Houldsworth but Gaines was rewarded moments later when she hammered home a loose ball from the edge of the six-yard box.

As half time approached Buck was released down the left flank and she used her speed to reach the ball first and slid the ball past the keeper.

The second half saw Silsden remain dominant. Arguably the goal of the game came when Field played an excellent one-two with Gaines and fired a shot high into the Wetherby net.

The only blot on the landscape was a goal from a Wetherby corner which crept over the line to prevent Laura Thurling from keeping a fifth clean sheet on the trot.
