West Yorkshire League Premier Division: Wetherby 1 Oxenhope Rec 4

OXENHOPE finished their season on a high note with a comfortable win at fifth-placed Wetherby.

The visitors started confidently and, on the quarter-hour, the Wetherby defence was unlocked.

Dan Moriarty played a weighted through-ball for James Bailey to run on to and slot past the keeper. Oxenhope continued their relentless attacking with Owen Williamson and Tom Marshall both going close before Marshall fired in a rasping second from the edge of the box.

Just before the break, good play between Moriarty and Marshall released Bailey, who rounded the keeper but was then brought down by him. To Rec’s amazement, the referee awarded a free-kick rather than a penalty and did not even issue a caution.

After such a dominant first half, Oxenhope started the second really slowly and were punished when Wetherby got back into the game with a well-taken goal.

Soon after, Oxenhope restored their two-goal cushion. Moriarty and Bailey linked up to release man of the match Marshall to hit his second from inside the box. Midway through the second period the game was made safe when Marshall played in Bailey, who crossed for Moriarty to fire home from close range.

It capped a good team performance and deserved victory to end the campaign.

Oxenhope: Hudson, Ward, Pullen, Walton, Kaine, Jalil, Quinlan, Moriarty, Bailey, Marshall, Williamson.
