OXENHOPE took the friendly spoils in a 3-1 pre-season win at home to neighbours Steeton.

The visitors enjoyd the majority of possession in a goalless first half before Oxenhope took the lead following clever work by Chris Day, who crossed for Scott Nelson to head in at the far post.

The home side doubled their advantage when defender Jason Walton headed in from a corner and, though Steeton pulled a goal back, Walton rose above everyone to nod home his second from another flag kick.

On Saturday, a much-changed Rec side welcomed Hartshead, whose physical approach made it difficult. The home defence held out until the 70th minute when Hartshead grabbed the lead. Oxenhope threw caution to the wind but three goal-bound shots were cleared off the line.

Oxenhope reserves produced a stunning second-half display to come from a goal down to win 4-2 at Craven League Premier Division outfit Cross Hills.

Rec keeper Eddie Jackson pulled off a string of fine saves before the hosts went a goal up soon after the break. Oxenhope levelled with a Tom Baker header and he then turned provider, crossing for Jason McGee to fire in at the far post.

Cross Hills equalised but, in the final quarter, McGee and Jon Clewes linked up well for the latter to score and Baker then provided Clewes with his second.
