Salts FC 1 Crossflatts Village 1

A LATE equaliser from substitute James Gill rescued a point for Crossflatts Village in their opening Wharfedale Triangle League fixture of the season.

The point flattered last season’s Keighley Cup winners who simply weren’t at the best as the home side dominated and took the lead in the first half.

Crossflatts had keeper Dom Bennett to thank for stopping them adding to their lead as he made a host of top saves.

It has been an eventful pre-season for Village which saw Kevin Gill replace Stevie George as manager and he put his own stamp on the squad with several new signings.

The equaliser came in the 89th minute when Adam Rooney set James Gill up and he made no mistake.

Village’s new manager was happy with a point but admitted that there was still room for improvement.

“We weren’t at the races today and this is a massive wake-up call. Some of the players need to have a look at their fitness because we were off the pace today, but there has been some funny results in the league today and I am happy with the point.”
