THE FIRST match of the season didn't start well for Oakworth Wasps u-16s but they recovered to beat hosts Thackley Lightning u-16s 5-4.
After conceding early on, they hit back to lead 4-2 at the break, Cameron Benham, Jake Illingworth and Michael Coffey (a 25-yard free-kick) being among the goals.
In the second half Declan Hartley made it five for the Wasps but Thackley scored their second from the spot to reduce the deficit to 5-4.
Wasps defended stoutly to hold on, Tom Boddy and goalkeeper Jacob Poynter receiving man of the match awards.
