West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Rec Reserves 4 Horbury Town Reserves 2

Oxenhope continued their push up the table, their latest victory taking them into sixth spot.

The visitors tested the Oxenhope defence early but found the centre-back pairing of Declan MacLaren and skipper Keann Shaw in commanding form.

Rec took the lead against the run of play when right back Karl Wellard played in Liam Fothergill. He played the ball through to Luke Snowden, who used his pace to gain a one-on-one with the keeper and calmly stroke the ball under the custodian.

The home side doubled their advantage when young Owen Williamson weaved his way down the left to the bye-line and cut the ball back for the on-rushing Sean Quinlan to strike home.

The home side then inexplicably took their foot off the gas and allowed Horbury back into the game with a quick-fire double.

The first was a powerful header from a free-kick and the second a long ball that their striker lobbed over keeper Eddie Jackson.

In the second half Oxenhope took command and regained the advantage with a slick passing move involving Danny Makinson, Dayne Ward and Quinlan, who used his vision to put it out wide to Williamson. He turned the opposition full back in knots before crossing to Craig Morris, whose volley was well saved by the Horbury keeper but Jason McGee was on hand to put the loose ball away for his tenth goal of the campaign.

The points were sealed when another fast-flowing move involving McGee, Ward and Fothergill presented the opportunity for Morris to place the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

This Saturday the reserves entertain Headingley Reserves (2.30pm), while Oxenhope's first team, who did not have a game, travel to in-form Leeds City (2.30pm).

Oxenhope Res: Jackson, Wellard, Mackinson, Shaw, MacLaren (Fleetwood), Ward, Fothergill, Quinlan (Walton), Snowden (McGee J), Morris, Williamson.
