Wharfedale Triangle Premier Division: Cullingworth Youth 2 Crossflatts Village 3

Crossflatts twice came from behind to beat their local rivals in a pulsating local derby at Roydwood Football Ground, mainly thanks to a virtuoso midfield display from Matthew Bentham.

The home side went in front on a couple of occasions thanks to great goals from Joseph Flaherty and Ben Chrispin but were pegged back by a James Gill penalty and a Billy Bailey strike.

The game looked to be petering out into a draw but Village had other ideas. With five minutes left, Bentham whipped in a trademark corner and substitute Ronald Cartwright was on hand to head home and secure all three points for the visitors, though Cullingworth still missed a couple of chances to level.

Thirty-five-year-old Bentham has been on a hot run of form of late and he was given yet another man-of-the-match award after another excellent midfield display.

This was one of Cullingworth's best performances of the season but their habit of not being able to defend corners hurt them again.

Flaherty earned Youth's man of the match, closely followed by Andy Waper, who was playing in the unusual role of centre back.

The result leaves Village third in the Premier Division but with games in hand over title rivals Sky Bet and defending champions Yeadon Veterans.

The home side sit in seventh but should take heart from the performance. They face Keighley Athletic at Marley in the Keighley FA Sunday Cup this weekend. Athletic won 4-3 when the sides met in the league earlier this season.
