West Riding County Women's League Premier Division: Tingley Athletic Ladies 2 Silsden Ladies 3

SILSDEN will not forget this Remembrance Day as they continued their run of good form to beat one of the best teams in the league.

After a minute's silence was perfectly observed in respect to fallen heroes, the Dragons set about dismantling Tingley’s excellent passing game.

Becca Brown and Katie Driver were immense at the back, while pressure on the home defence finally told when Jess Buck was released before intelligently rolling the ball into the path of Izzy Di Franco, who passed the ball under the keeper to give the Cobbydalers the lead.

Moments later Di Franco was rewarded again for her persistence as she blocked an attempted clearance and it flew past the stranded keeper to make it 2-0.

Tingley, who were knocked off top spot as a result of this defeat, were rattled as Silsden continued to put a stranglehold on the game. The midfield trio of Nicola Frankland, Sophie Gaines and Selina Steventon were working incredibly hard to close down their opponents and the momentum was continued when Vicky Ellis joined the action. Harriet Persson-Brewer was having her usual influence down the right flank.

After a severe half-time dressing down, Tingley pulled one back within minutes of the restart after an unfortunate mix-up.

With backs against the wall, full backs Christina Aston and Laura Fagan had to be at their strongest.

Megan Robson-Owens was brought on to give Tingley something different to think about. Slightly against the run of play, good combination work between Ellis, Gaines and Persson-Brewer resulted in a cross which saw Hollie Kirtley appear in the six-yard box to skilfully finish a classy move.

Tingley were stung into action and Laura Thurling made a string of fine saves to maintain the hard-earned lead.

Charlotte Hutchinson was playing some delightful balls into space to relieve some of the pressure and Naomi Di Franco utilised her lightning pace to combat the Tingley threat down the left.

Another lapse in concentration allowed Tingley to pull another goal back and harbour hopes of a comeback but resolute defending saw Silsden hang on for a memorable victory.
