SPORTING Keighley are the sole Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League representatives left in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy.

They defeated fellow Premier Division side Silsden Whitestar 5-4 in a fourth-round penalty shoot-out after the teams were locked together at 2-2 at full-time.

Whitestar had taken the lead through a first-half penalty before Aatir Zubair Shehzad curled in an equaliser from outside the box but they needed a Shazad Khan goal, after a one-two, to level for the second time.

Sporting's keeper saved two of the penalties in the shoot-out.

Meanwhile, Salts were beaten 9-1 at home by Shelf Juniors in another tie.

Cross Hills drew level with Sporting in the Premier Division table after a 4-0 win at basement boys Earby Town.

Robert Matthews scored all of the goals but they are still second from bottom as Sporting have a slightly superior goal difference.

Cowling may be strong favourites for the Division One title but they suffered a shock defeat in the Northern Plant Hire Trophy, going down 5-2 at Skipton Town, who are third in the same division.

Trevor Harding and Tom Palmer got the goals for the leaders, whose man of the match was Craig Gregory.

Bradley were beaten 4-2 at Carleton in a first-round tie, David Hunt and Miles Thompson getting the consolation efforts as Joe Allen picked up the gong.

In league action, hosts Broomhill edged out Chatburn 3-2 in a typically tight lower-mid table battle, with Zain Abbas, Andy Tanner and substitute Bradley Coles being on target for the hosts.

There were also divisional cup matches, with Cononley Sports overturning a 2-1 half-time deficit to defeat visitors Settle United Reserves 6-4 in a first-round Division Two Cup fixture.

Sports now play Barnoldswick Barons or Salts at home, while Cowling Reserves defeated Sutton 4-1 in a first-round Division Three Cup match, goals for the Thabani Songo-inspired winners coming from Jack Sedgwick (2), Alastair Jones and Tim McNee.

Aiden Robertson got the only reply, with Sutton's man of the match being Phil Clayton.

Cowling Reserves will now be away to Barlick Wanderers or Ilkley.

In Division Two, Cross Hills Reserves must be optimistic of climbing out of a relegation place after their 4-3 home win over Salts, man of the match Billy Skelton (2), Jacob Fryer and Jack Harrison being on target for the south Craveners.

Simon Cox, who was man of the match, and Bradley Fay netted for third-placed Silsden Whitestar Reserves, who were 2-0 victors at Horton in Division Three, but the chief talking point was the clash between Bradley Reserves and Broomhill Reserves.

Hosts Bradley Reserves won 10-3 for their first three points of the season but the visitors had both Zak Blackman and Cameron Galindo sent off, Aaron Dickson (2) and Michael Turner getting the consolation goals.
