West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Reserves 2 Leeds Modernians Reserves 3

OXENHOPE let a 2-1 lead slip as the visitors claimed the spoils.

After Leeds missed an early chance, Rec started to dominate, with Joel Gallagher, Jason McGee and Luke Snowden all testing the keeper.

It wasn’t until the final ten minutes of the half that the home side got their noses in front, Gallagher running onto a through-ball and rounding the keeper before slotting into an empty net.

But in the dying minutes of the first period, Leeds’ front man broke through the home defence and powerfully shot beyond keeper Eddie Jackson.

Oxenhope resumed the second half on top and, on the hour, restored their advantage. Receiving the ball on the halfway line, McGee cut inside two defenders before setting up Gallagher, who took the ball in his stride and beat the keeper.

Minutes later, Gallagher ran on to another through ball and rounded the keeper but, with the goal at his mercy, he lifted the ball over the bar. It was a miss that the home side would regret.

Into the final quarter, the visitors played the ball out wide to the left. An Oxenhope defender went to intercept but lost his footing on the muddy surface and a Leeds striker took full advantage to drive in the equaliser.

Two minutes later the visitors bagged the winner when their front player drifted into the box and cut the ball back for his strike partner, who evaded two challenges and curled the ball into the net.

On Saturday Oxenhope travel to Boroughbridge Reserves (2pm).
