West Riding County Women's League Division Two: Crossley 5 Silsden Development 2

SILSDEN only started with ten players and soon found themselves a goal down.

But they were soon level when midfielder Kourtnai Broughton latched on to an awkward ball and set up Sarah Mitchell, who made no mistake in slotting home.

Despite now having a full complement, Silsden were caught on the counter numerous times and went 3-1 down.

The visitors suffered another blow when experienced defender Alex Walsh had to be taken off with an injured knee. With a player advantage again, Crossley extended their lead to make it 4-1 at the break.

A half-time rally seemed to do the trick as a fired-up Silsden soon pulled a goal back. Midfielder Natasha Mulligan played a superb through ball to Broughton, who outpaced the defence before cutting inside the 18-yard box and blasting home, giving the keeper no chance.

But celebrations were short-lived when a deflected shot at the other end gave keeper Rebecca Steward no chance.

They were dealt a further blow when vice captain Kate Perfect suffered an ankle injury and had to be taken from the field, leaving them with just nine players.

Crossley could have gone further ahead but for some excellent saves from keeper Steward, who won the match point. Captain Dee Rutherford rallied her players, who were determined not to concede again.

In fact, they came close to reducing the deficit but were denied by the woodwork and some excellent saves.
