STEETON travel to West Yorkshire Premier League outfit Beeston St Anthony’s in the West Riding FA Challenge Cup quarter-final this Saturday, with boss Roy Mason admitting unfinished business is at stake.

The Leeds-based side are the current holders of the trophy after beating Carlton Athletic in last year’s final at Woodlesford. They currently lie fifth in the table and are sure to represent a tough challenge for the Chevrons but the Summerhill Lane side beat them 2-1 on their home patch en route to the final three years ago.

After their loss to Field at Leeds United's ground in the 2014 showpiece, a win on Saturday would be another step towards erasing the heartache of that game.

Mason said: “While the last run was a great experience for the club, and the day we had at Elland Road was one no one will forget, we still lost the game.

"We just didn’t perform anywhere near our capabilities on the day and the only way to really put that to bed is to go on and win the trophy. The bigger teams at this level reach semi-finals and finals on a regular basis and not just as a one-off.”

Steeton go into the game on a good run with two big away wins, 7-0 at Honley in the League Cup and 4-1 at previously unbeaten Littletown in the last round.

Chevrons boss Mason does not mind being on the road again and is happy to assume the underdogs role.

He said: “The draw has been tough for us all throughout the campaign with every tie being away from home. However, I think that this can often suit the style of football we play as ours is quite a tight pitch and the bigger pitches allow us to play a more expansive type of football.

"Beeston will represent our toughest challenge, as it did three years ago, but I always feel we perform better when we are cast as the underdogs and people are looking to write us off."

Steeton have a wealth of experience in their side, with players having winner’s medals in their cabinet from their time at Silsden, and Mason believes that experience could be vital.

He said: “In big games like this you need some older heads – ones that know when to slow the game down and have the ability to keep us organised, keep our shape and also to ensure that, should something go against us, then we don’t go into our shell.”

The club is running a coach for spectators from B&Q in Keighley (on Alston Road) on Saturday at 11:45am and Mason is hoping to drum up plenty of support.

He said: "It would be great to take a large following over and people shouldn’t under-estimate what a bit more support can do for the players. It could just get us over the line."
