AT this moment there is a major shortage of football referees.

This is a national problem and the Keighley and Craven areas are no exception.

In fact, at this moment in time, referee numbers in the Keighley FA area are probably at their lowest ever.

From over 100 in the early 1980s there are only 24 registered this season.

There is a desperate need to boost numbers and the West Riding County FA are putting on a course for new referees at Marley Activities and Coaching Centre, next month.

The cost of the course is £120 and full details are on the West Riding County FA site in the referees' section.

There are currently15 vacancies on theFA Basic Referee Course (Theory & Practical).

If you are interested or know somebody who is, you need to register by 5pm on April 13. The course starts on April 20 at 6pm

The course contact is Mark Haywood, 0870 8500 424 or 0113 282 1222 (Option 4), email mark.haywood@westriding
