West Yorkshire League Premier Division: Oxenhope Rec 1 Horbury Town 6

PROBABLY the youngest side ever to represent Oxenhope took to the field against Horbury, a side six places above them and in a good vein of form.

After 40 minutes though, all looked well as the home side were a goal in front and were matching their more experienced rivals.

Then three goals in a ten-minute spell either side of the break took the wind out of their sails. Oxenhope took the lead on ten minutes when Owen Williamson broke down the left and crossed beyond the far post. Lewis Hopkinson put the ball back into the danger area and stand-in striker Scott Nelson converted from close range.

The game flowed from end to end as both sides played neat, passing football. Five minutes before the break Oxenhope keeper Eddie Jackson made a good block but failed to grab the loose ball and the Horbury front man punished the error.

Minutes later the youngsters found themselves behind when the visitors broke down field and finished clinically.

Within five minutes of the restart, a long, high ball into the Oxenhope penalty area was not dealt with and Horbury scored their third.

Horbury were now in command as experience held sway as Oxenhope had to dig deep to stem the tide. Another break down field saw the fourth goal and, soon after, a Horbury wide player cut in along the bye line and fired in from an acute angle. The demolition was complete in the final minute with a lob.

The defeat did nothing to help Oxenhope in their fight against relegation from the top flight and their task gets no easier this week at Hunslet on Saturday (2.30pm).

Oxenhope Reserves were also on the end of heavy defeat to Horbury Town Reserves, losing 6-0.
