West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Beeston Reserves 5 Oxenhope Rec Reserves 2

OXENHOPE’S second string suffered defeat at reigning champions Beeston, who appear to be heading for a second consecutive league title, with two five-minute lapses in concentration proving costly.

Rec’s wide players Luke Snowden and Jason McGee carried an early threat down the flanks while Owen Williamson tested the keeper from distance.

Just as it appeared the visitors were gaining the upper hand, Beeston struck midway through the first half. Oxenhope’s defence switched off and the home striker was allowed acres of space as he took full advantage.

Minutes later a through ball from midfield allowed the Beeston front man to notch his second.

Oxenhope hit back immediately when McGee slotted a ball between defenders for Joe Brady to hold off his marker and place the ball into the top right corner.

Beeston grabbed their third just before the break. A clumsy tackle and a free-kick from distance was driven beyond the visitors' defence for a winger to run on to and rifle home.

The home side started the second half strongly, Rec keeper Ricky Driver producing a reflex save to tip the ball round the post, only for Beeston to scramble their fourth over the line from the resulting corner. Minutes later Oxenhope’s defence was caught square again and Beeston's winger hit his second. Oxenhope pulled a consolation back when Keann Shaw’s powerful strike was parried before Williamson was on hand to smash the ball into the net.

* Oxenhope’s first team did not have a game but Ilkley Town’s win at bottom side Brighouse pushes Oxenhope ever nearer the relegation trap door.

Their plight is made no easier on Saturday when they entertain Premier Division champions elect Carlton at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm).
