West Yorkshire League Premier Division: Oxenhope Rec 0 Carlton 5

AFTER six seasons in the top flight, Oxenhope's relegation was confirmed following their defeat at the hands of champions Carlton.

Up until 70 minutes the home side were still in the game. Although 2-0 down, they were the team with the greater possession and playing the better football but a third goal against the run of play saw the visitors seal the spoils.

After an even opening 20 minutes the visitors took the lead with a lob from the edge of the box that found the top corner. This stirred Oxenhope as they pressed for the equaliser but minutes before half-time, Carlton broke away and, following some neat interplay on the edge of the box, their striker hammered the ball home.

Oxenhope came out after the break determined to get back into the match. Danny Driver and Owen Williamson carried the threat down the flanks and man of the match Joe Brady worked tirelessly up front but found the Carlton keeper in inspired form, saving numerous attempts from him. The shot-stopper also made one top-drawer save from a Ross Chapman header. Carlton's third goal on the counter-attack was the killer blow and two late goals resulted in a heavy defeat, which was an unfair reflection of the game.

Oxenhope will need to put the disappointment of relegation behind them when they face Silsden Whitestar on Friday night in the final of the Keighley Cup at Silsden FC’s stadium (7.30pm), where they will attempt to win the trophy for the fourth consecutive year.

Oxenhope: Driver R, Ward, Wilson, Shaw, Nelson, White, Driver D, Chapman, Brady, Walbank (Pullan), Williamson.

Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Rec Reserves 1 Leeds City Reserves 2

Oxenhope started strongly against their second-placed visitors, taking the lead after just ten minutes when Jason McGee cut into the box and struck his shot across the keeper.

Leeds battled back, restricting Oxenhope to half-chances, and ten minutes before the break they grabbed the equaliser. Their midfielder fired in a swerving shot that deflected off an Oxenhope defender and hit the target.

The visitors took the lead ten minutes into the second period when an in-swinging corner into a crowded penalty area took another wicked deflection.

Oxenhope pressed for the equaliser with McGee and Craig Morris both going close but a well-organised defence held out to secure the points.

On Saturday Oxenhope Reserves face a stiff test when they host reigning reserve champions Beeston, who are heading towards their second consecutive title (2.30pm).
