West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Reserves 0 Beeston Reserves 2

OXENHOPE hosted champions elect Beeston at the Recreation Ground, the visitors still needing a few more points to retain their title.

Rec pressed from the start to ensure Beeston did not take control of the game. Oxenhope’s Jason McGee had first sight of goal when he cut into the box and unleashed a shot which the keeper tipped round the post.

The entertaining game swung from end to end as both defences held strong but in the final minute of the half the Beeston right winger latched onto a poor clearance, whipped the ball in and as the ball ricocheted round the box, the visitors got the last touch to squeeze the ball over the line from close range.

The second half saw Oxenhope continue to press without reward. On 70 minutes Beeston had the chance to double their advantage when a fierce shot was parried by Oxenhope keeper Ricky Driver. The ball came back to the striker but was prevented from scoring by a well-timed tackle by young Luke Wright.

In the dying minutes a Beeston corner was swung in and the ball bundled over the line for their second.

This Saturday the reserves entertain Carlton Reserves (2.30pm).
