Pre-season friendly: Farsley Celtic 3 Harrogate Town 1

FARSLEY Celtic saved their best performance of pre-season so far for the visit of Vanarama National League North Harrogate Town as they enjoyed a confidence-boosting win.

The Celts beat Simon Weaver’s young Town side 3-1, with all four goals coming in the first half.

James Walshaw, Farsley’s leading scorer from last season, maintained his run of scoring in every friendly this term when he headed home a fourth-minute cross from Ryan Watson.

The visitors equalised soon after through Marcus Day as the home side, whose defence was marshalled by new skipper and former Harrogate Town captain Danny Ellis, tried to lay an offside trap.

Farsley were back in front midway through the first half, however, when close-season signing Isaac Baldwin opened his account with a stunning shot into the top corner after a great run.

It got better for the home side minutes before the interval as Richard Marshall netted from close range after a good ball in from Kurt Harris, another new addition to the Celts’ ranks.

Campion beat Liversedge 2-0 with goals from Kevin Batty and Matty Jones to bring Sedge back down to earth after they had won their two opening friendies.

Guiseley are back in action tonight following their defeat earlier in midweek to Stuart McCall’s Bradford City as they take on Yorkshire Amateur in Leeds.

Adam Lockwood’s men have been through the full gamut of emotions during pre-season so far after opening with a 5-1 home defeat to Leeds United.

A 3-3 draw against Leeds’ league rivals Barnsley followed before a 2-0 win at Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division side Parkgate and then Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the Bantams.

Lockwood’s Lions will be looking to get back to winning ways as their match practice continues against the Ammers, who are a division below Parkgate in the NCE League set-up.

Silsden are also cramming in more game-time as they host local side Ilkley Town.

Danny Forrest’s men began their build-up to the season with a 3-0 home defeat to Yorkshire Ams but have won two games since.

The Cobbydalers won 2-1 at Thackley on Tuesday.
