Oxenhope u-17s 2 Steeton u-18s 2

IT FINISHED honours even in this local derby as two penalties from Jake Scott saw Oxenhope come from 2-0 down.

The Chevrons tried to get their passing game going but found it difficult due to the tricky surface.

However, it did not stop them racing into a two-goal lead when a fine shot from Harrison Houldsworth was fumbled by the Oxenhope keeper, only for Jordan Daniel to snap up the loose ball and make it 1-0.

That lead was extended when a pin-point long throw from Will Kaye picked out Harry Farnell bursting into the box and he finished neatly into the bottom corner.

Steeton pressed for the all-important third but a combination of last-ditch defending and good goalkeeping prevented them from doing so.

At the other end Steeton’s defence of Zain Hussain, Jack McCormack, Reece Hird and Tom Ormerod seemed to be fairly comfortable dealing with what Oxenhope could throw at them until late in the first half when a long ball was eagerly chased by Liam Bonner, who managed to get to the ball just in front of Steeton’s keeper and was brought down in the box.

A cool top-corner finish by Scott from the spot-kick made it 2-1 at the break.

The second half was a tight affair, with neither team creating any really good scoring opportunities. However, a ball into the box was met by Steeton defender Hird with his thigh and the ball deflected up onto his arm.

A second penalty was dispatched by Scott into the bottom right-hand corner and brought the scores level.

* Steeton under-19s got their season up and running with a 4-2 win over Ossett Town. Freddie Binns (2) and Ben Clarkson (2) got the goals.
