Steeton u18s 3

STEETON u18s secured the first piece of silverware of the season for the club with victory over rivals Silsden.

A 3-0 victory over the road at Silsden was enough for the young Chevrons to win the league championship with one game left to play.

In a game were Silsden needed victory to keep any chances of winning the league for themselves and Steeton needing victory to win the league, there was plenty to play for. That was pretty evident in the game as both teams were working hard to cancel each other out.

Jordan Daniel was making his presence felt up front for Steeton and he nearly opened the scoring when a nicely floated ball over the Silsden defence sat up and he lifted the ball up over the keeper to only see the ball clear the bar as well.

Next, Steeton had their 16-year-old goalkeeper Elliot Wilson to thank for keeping the scores level when he saved and held onto a penalty awarded to Silsden when Reece Hird appeared to play the ball in a challenge in the box.

Steeton opened the scoring when a dangerous corner from Harry Farnell was directed into his own net by the Silsden defender from a yard out.

Mathew Griffith nearly doubled the lead when a driven ball from Daniels on the left was controlled at the near post, but his shot was well saved by Silsden's keeper.

Steeton doubled their lead when another dangerous corner towards the near post was challenged for by the Silsden keeper and Kaisar Ali for Steeton. The latter was to take full advantage of the keeper's fumble to tap the ball home from close range.

It was advantage Steeton at half-time with a two-goal lead but who was to score the all important third goal of the game.

Silsden were putting the Chevrons under pressure with the long pass and trying to pick up the second ball but it was just about being dealt with by the Steeton defence and midfield.

The all important third goal came Steeton's way when a long pass was missed by the Silsden defender that left Jordan Daniel one on one with the Silsden keeper. The young Steeton player finished into the bottom right hand corner.

Both teams only created half chances in the remaining time in the period, apart from one that Wilson came out on top when the Silsden front man got put through. But his shot was pushed around the post by Wilson.
