SILSDEN Whitestar retained the Craven and District Football League Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Trawden Celtic.

Sam Stanfield’s hat-trick and Rob Matthew’s strike helped Whitestar to a second successive Premier Division Cup crown at Skipton Town’s Engine Shed Lane stadium.

Whitestar took the lead in the 17th minute when a Trawden mistake let in Stanfield, who headed the ball past the outstretched keeper.

Stanfield added a second soon after, before Trawden’s Whiting missed an easy chance to reduce the deficit on the stroke of half-time.

Trawden were made to pay for their error in the second-half, as Silsden piled on the pressure.

Tom Appleby and Josh Mcnulty progressed dangerously down the flanks, while goalkeeper Daniel Thorpe and defenders Oliver Peacock and JJ Berry maintained a solid defensive display.

Matthews added a third for Silsden halfway through the second period when a shot from captain Gavin Shearer ended up in his path.

Matthews tucked it away with ease, before Stanfield claimed his hat-trick came in the 80th minute following good work from his strike partner Josh Metcalfe.
