Keighley remain top of JCT600 Bradford League Division Two despite slipping to their first league defeat of the season after being dismissed for just 39.

Only Amjid Hussain reached double figures as they crumbled in bowler-friendly conditions at Bankfoot on Monday.

Having earlier dismissed the hosts for 118, a fifth win in seven matches looked within range.

Australian Andrew King continued to show how valuable a signing he has been with 5-16 at little more than one an over.

Richard Robinson also weighed in with 3-29 as overseas player Sandeep Bavanaka proved Bank-oot’s mainstay with 50.

Reaching their target was certainly not a given in tough batting conditions following the weekend’s wet weather, which saw Saturday’s program-me washed out.

But Keighley, who were led by Richard Wear in the absence of skipper Freddie Pearson, didn’t get close.

Greg Colehan used all his experience to claim 5-16, while Bavanaka cap-ped a fine match with 3-6 as Bankfoot won by 79 runs.

The one piece of good news for Keighley was second-placed Under-cliffe’s 93-run defeat at Baildon, which means the Lawkholme Laners still top the table by three points.

By contrast, Keighley II remain bottom of the Division One second-team league.

They came agonisingly close to beating visitors Pudsey Congs II but missed out by one wicket.

Allan Birkett (21) and Jason Perry (31) put on 51 for the first wicket in the hosts’ 117 all out, which also saw Ashley Robinson make 24.

Alex Towler (5-32) then led the way as Congs were reduced from 83-4 to 112-9, only for the last pair to get their side over the line.

Meanwhile, Keighley II have been drawn at home to Bradford & Bingley II or Saltaire II in the third round of the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield.
