STEETON suffered another defeat to bottom club Collingham, having already been dumped out of the Waddilove Cup by them.

This time the reverse came in the league as the Division One strugglers won at Summerhill Lane by five wickets.

Steeton’s openers Craig Walton (11) and Andrew Foulds (25) got them off to a steady start before Walton was well-caught in the gully with the score on 16.

The middle order succumbed to Collingham’s spin attack, with a procession of batsmen falling to ill-judged aggression.

Skipper Neil Spragg scored 21 before being clean-bowled and Mark Taylor scored 11 before he too was bowled.

The only batsman who looked comfortable was Andrew Luxton, who scored an excellent 41 from 67 deliveries with six boundaries.

Stephen Pearson (21) added late runs before Steeton were all out in 48.4 overs for a paltry 143.

In reply, Collingham lost their first wicket in the first over to Pearson (2-29) with a catch taken by wicketkeeper Foulds.

However, the visitors reached their target with 23 overs and five wickets to spare.

The pick of Steeton’s bowlers was Jon Best, who took 3-26, which included an excellent low catch taken by Pearson.

Nick Brook hit a quick-fire century against second-placed Kirkstall to inspire Burley to a victory that saw them climb to third in the table, a point behind their rivals.

Brook raced to 127 in 103 balls as he and fellow-opener Jason Wright, who smashed 82 in 48 balls, put on 147 to lay the foundation for Burley’s 302, the highest total in the league this season.

Burley had the home side reeling at 73-6, but a seventh-wicket stand of 121 between former Baildon brothers Matt (56) and Tom Webb, who added 98 to his earlier five-wicket haul, saw Kirkstall reach 232-9.

All five sides at the top of Division One went down, including Otley who saw their unbeaten run smashed by defending champions Beckwithshaw.

Having slumped into the bottom two, Beckwithshaw suddenly found their form and century from Ross Sedgley helped them set a 241-9 target.

Otley never looked like testing that after former Green Lane star Istikhar Hussain took their first two wickets without a run on the board.

He went on to pick up 4-15 and with Stuart Hudson (6-33) skittled out Otley for 94, only a half-century, seventh-wicket stand between Andy Rhodes (34) and James Wilcock (24) making it that respectable.

Lewis Bolton included four sixes in his70 as Ben Rhydding set Rawdon a target of 181. Thanks to Ben Heritage (75) they just scraped home with one wicket to spare, the last pair surviving a dropped catch just before they clinched the win.

Nasir Jamal (6-32) starred for Guiseley but their batting was out of sorts and they went down by 117 runs at Pool, while Ilkley’s 186-9 was chased down by Bilton with four wickets in hand and bottom club Collingham eased past Steeton’s modest 143 total.

Shahid Nadeem followed up a three-wicket spell with an unbeaten half century to see Skipton to victory over Adel in Division Two where Follifoot lost their unbeaten run and top spot to North Leeds.

Waleed Akhtar hit 86 in Green Lane’s 222-7 then he and Mike Ellis each took four wickets to dismiss Colton for 194, while Tom Cummins (69) led the way as Harden overtook Tong Park Esholt’s 209-7 with three wickets to spare in Division Two.

That gave them a little breathing space above bottom two Bolton Villas and Thackley, who went down to Knaresborough and Upper Wharfedale respectively.

In Division Three, Silsden suffered a 56-run defeat at home to Alwoodley.

Chasing 210-9, they collapsed from 135-3 to 154 all out (Chris Barrett 39, Muhammad Waqas 34) against the guile of 59-year-old Alwoodley veteran Geoff Weir (8-40).

Horsforth became the third side leading their division to lose their unbeaten record when Illingworth bowled them out for just 130 to set up a six-wicket win.

Andrew Alred (4-44) restricted Olicanian to 157-8 and despite faltering at 19-2, Calverley clinched a six-wicket win that puts them up to third. Scott Driscoll (59) sparked the recovery and Naveed Panesar (24no) and Dan Hall (35no) finished the job.

Signing of the year, South African Bevan Williams, scored his third century for Hall Park in their 200. He hit 17 fours and four sixes in another master-class and despite the efforts of Johnny Johnson (61) Addingham were bowled out eight short of victory.

Shahid Bashir (66), Ed Parker (72) and Gareth Lee (5-54) were the heroes of Menston’s win over Woodhouse.

Steeton II’s Matt Price scored 85 at Horsforth in his side’s 230-9, but the hosts passed their target with two wickets and two balls to spare.
