THERE will be no home final for Keighley in the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield.

The 2012 winners were beaten by 40 runs at Pudsey St Lawrence in the semi-finals on Sunday, and Saints will now meet holders Hanging Heaton at Lawkholme Lane on Sunday, August 10.

Keighley, who won the toss and opted to field, used eight bowlers at Tofts Road as St Lawrence's mixture of old and young compiled 225, experienced wicketkeeper Steve Thompson making 41, Jordan Moore 33 and Duncan Butler 32.

Skipper Alex Towler was easily the best bowler with 3-29 off his ten overs, Ben Jagger taking 2-46 and Andy Coppen 2-53, while paceman Jason Perry was the most economical with 1-15 off eight overs.

The visitors made a poor start in reply and, although Sam Murphy (63) and Luke Chapman (33) recovered in the middle order, they fell away again to be dismissed for 185 as Butler took 3-20, Moore 3-33 and former Yorkshire, Sussex and Middlesex pace bowler Paul Hutchison 2-27.

However, Saturday was better for Keighley's second strings as they continued to pull away from the JCT600 Bradford League Division One relegation zone with victory at East Bierley.

Opening bat Perry led the way in his usual uncompromising style, making 51 out of 67, including 11 fours.

Alan Birkett weighed in with 38, and a last-wicket stand of 38 between Jagger (19no) and Hammy Shazad (19) boosted the score to 198, Matt Anderson taking 3-29 and Andrew Newby 3-33.

Bierley were soon struggling when they replied and were dismissed for 108 to drop into the bottom two as Coppen took 3-16, Shahzad 2-12 and Jagger 2-21.

It was also a good day for Keighley's first team, who defeated Gomersal by four wickets with 22 balls to spare.

Visitors Gomersal were 7-2 and 90-6 but were revived by a seventh-wicket stand of 92 between Jonathan Boynton (75) and Joel Pollard (41no).

Keighley's key partnership was74 for the fifth wicket between new skipper Richard Wear (67no) and Tom Stead (38) after former captain Freddie Pearson had made a swift 42 at the top of the order, Chris Rhodes giving them food for thought with 3-38.

Saltaire are level on points with Keighley at 176 but the latter have climbed to second by virtue of having one more win. Undercliffe, who have played a game more, are clear leaders on 227.

On Saturday, Keighley host Hartshead Moor, while the second team have a derby at Bradford & Bingley.
