AT LEAST Andy Wear had a successful debut on what was a disappointing opening weekend for Keighley in the JCT600 Bradford League.

The new signing from Harden made the only score of note for the first team or the second team as both fell to defeat.

He hit 46 of the first team's 109 at Morley as they lost by 125 runs to the team from Scatcherd Lane, who are bidding for a quick return to the top flight.

The hosts had earlier made 234-9, with Hammy Shazhad taking 3-36, skipper Richard Wear 2-42 and Alex Towler 2-46 as man of the match James McNichol (63) and George Robson (27) put on 66 for the second wicket before captain Matthew Baxter weighed in with 48.

Max Davidson (24) and young Sam Murphy (18) were the only other players to reach double figures for Keighley as they were set back by Matthew Dowse (6-3-3-3), David Nebard (3-21) and Nathan Bromby (2-28).

Keighley's second team had some early joy at Lawkholme Lane against Priestley Shield winners Hanging Heaton but the visitors were rescued by No 8 Nick Finnigan (65) and experienced wicket-keeper Paul Eachus (29) in their 199, spinner Andrew Coppen causing a mid-innings shutter with 4-49, backed up by Dillon Birkett (2-12), while Jason Perry (3-77), who had dismissed both openers, returned to get Finnigan.

Teenager Louis Horsefield (22) and Dillon's father Allan (21) were the only Keighley players to top 20 in their reply of 127 as Jamie Baulk took 5-31 and James Byrne 2-12.
