CLUB umpires were in the spotlight on a day when the Mewies Solicitors Craven League was hard hit by the rain.

Play was only possible in four matches in the top two divisions, which were under the control of panel umpires, producing one result.

However, in the other three divisions, which were under the control of club umpires, there were nine matches that started and five results were forthcoming.

League fixture secretary Trevor Coe said: "It would appear that 'we don't play cricket in the rain' has not percolated down to the umpires of divisions Three, Four and Five.

"When only two games finished in the Bradford League, and they have covers, it is hard to believe that the games that produced results were not played in the rain."

The sole game to be completed in Division One was at Barrowford as leaders Haworth won by eight wickets after dismissing the Bull Holme side for 93, with Stephen Bell taking 3-33 and Damian Rowell 3-41.

The Bronte outfit took just 15 overs to reach their target thanks to Gary Binns, who smashed six sixes and four fours in his 67 not out.

Haworth Road had reached 11-0 at home to Bingley Congs when the game was abandoned, while Ingrow St John's were 74-2 off 20 overs at Crossflatts when play ceased.

The only Division Two game where any play was possible was at Bradley, where visitors Thornton had reached 71-2, Casper Bean taking 2-19.

There was a tight finish in Division Three at Sandy Lane, where Barrowford II were the visitors.

The Bull Holme side posted 154 as Asif Khan claimed 4-28 and Jimmy Dennison 4-47.

The Greenwood Park team looked to be out of it at 126-9 but Mohammad Ahmar (17no) and Ashah Riswan (15no) had other ideas and took their side to victory.

Haworth II were building up a healthy score when rain intervened. Aaron Putko (68) and Adie Ratcliffe (65) had helped them to 145-1 against Glusburn.
