STEETON will be casting anxious glances over their shoulder after a 15-run defeat by lowly Guiseley left them uncomfortably close to the Aire-Wharfe Division One relegation positions.

Guiseley made 148-3 in 23 overs when they batted first in a game curtailed by rain. Damon Reeve (70no) and swashbuckling Jo Inglis (50) shared a third-wicket stand of 95 after Joe Stead (2-47) picked up a couple of early wickets.

Opener Andrew Foulds, back from injury, gave the Steeton reply early impetus.

He scored 50 runs from 45 deliveries with two sixes and six fours.

Foulds added 43 runs for third wicket with Freddie Pearson, who contributed 20 from 26 deliveries with three boundaries. Skipper Steve Pearson attacked late in the innings as he made an unbeaten 30 from 13 deliveries.

He smashed two sixes and two fours but Steeton finished on 133-8, 15 runs short of their target.

Relegation-threatened Harden had their Division Two game away to promotion-chasing Horsforth rained off.

Addingham are the new leaders of Division Three but bottom team Silsden gave them a big scare before they squeezed home by two runs.

Silsden looked set to break their luck when they reached 98-6 in reply to Addingham's 118-8. Zabi Ullah (26) and Majid Inyat (24) made useful contributions but Rob Ellis (3-32) struck crucial late blows and they were all out for 116.

Daniel Ellis (36) and Will Atkins (25) were the top scorers for Addingham who made their runs in 19 overs. Chris Meehan (3-19) and Matthew Shuttleworth (3-50) bowled well for Silsden.

Steeton IIs went down to a three-wicket defeat against Guiseley IIs who they will meet in the Birtwhistle Cup final on August 16.

Steeton recovered from losing both openers David Robinson and Chris Luxton for ducks to post a score of 137-4 in a match reduced by rain to 23 overs each.

Skipper Craig Walton was the mainstay of the innings with an unbeaten 73. He made his runs from 55 deliveries with five sixes and four fours as he made light of the testing conditions for batting.

Josh Gill (2-26) and Paul Hardwick (2-18) had Guiseley struggling at 46-4 but the visitors refused to cave in.

They edged to their victory target with four balls to spare. Steeton will be hoping to avenge the loss when the sides meet again on Sunday week.

Harden IIs suffered a 79-run defeat in their home clash with Beckwithshaw, while Silsden IIs went down by nine wickets to Addingham.
