OXENHOPE’S promotion push in Division One of the Foster’s Halifax League faltered with a three-wicket loss to Bridgeholme.

The visitors failed to post a substantial total on the tight ground. Lewis Hopkinson (40) and Tom Tetley (37) were the only significant contributors in a score of 158 all out, Mahmood taking 5-65.

The ever-reliable Jaz Jheeta gave Oxenhope some hoping with a 4-54 return but Harris (34), Cavanagh (32) and Ali (28) steered the home side to a three-wicket victory. Spencer Mawer was awarded the fielding point.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Tom Mawer was the star performer as Oxenhope seconds bounced back from last week’s defeat in convincing fashion.

Mawer batted through in tricky conditions against Old Town for a classy unbeaten 114, which included 16 fours.

An under-strength batting line-up was never tested as Mawer and Brendan Ellison, who was stumped for 71, shared an opening stand of 156.

Eddie Burke chipped in with 33 not out in a final tally of 236-1 from their 45 overs.

Robin Cusdin and Sam Fleetwood removed the Old Town openers before Shah’s blistering 52 gave the visitors hope.

Once Cusdin removed him, it became a race against the weather to secure full points.

Up stepped Mawer once more with his leg spin claiming three wickets. Ellison repeated the feat and Cusdin bagged his third to wrap up the innings.

Mawer completed a superb individual day with the fielding point.
