A WICKET in the final over at Ilkley from Craig Walton clinched Steeton's first victory of the season in Aire-Wharfe League Division One.

Chasing the visitors' total of 188 all out, the hosts needed nine from the last over but Walton had Henry Wilson caught by James Freebury with three balls left to leave Ilkley dismissed for 183.

After his side were put in to bat, Freddie Pearson continued his excellent form with a fine 47 from 56 deliveries. However, Steeton found themselves struggling on 72-5 before the collapse was halted by a 42-run partnership between Andrew Foulds (29) and Freebury (22).

The visitors were in trouble again on 125-8 but skipper Steve Pearson (25no) helped them post a defendable total as James Emmott and Josh Gill provided support.

In reply William Spivey (37) helped Ilkley to 84-2 before Freebury trapped him lbw and the bowler went on to be Steeton's chief destroyer with 4-59.

Emmott also contributed with 2-53 but Ilkley's last pair looked to be guiding their side to victory, putting on 31, before Walton struck in the final over.

Silsden got back to winning ways in Division Three with a two-wicket win at home to Bolton Villas in a low-scoring encounter.

Manley Du Preez helped skittle Villas for just 97, taking 5-26 as Shaun Brentall (2-33) and Nick Firth (2-12) backed him up well.

Firth top-scored with 23 when Silsden replied but the Cobbydalers looked in trouble when they were reduced from 72-4 to 75-7, and had Matt Shuttleworth (17) to thank for getting them over the line.

Harden completed the trio of Keighley area winners as they beat Illingworth by 70 runs in Division Two.

Paul Quinlan (64no) and Steve Gardner (40) led them to 203-7 before Andy Bailey (4-27) and Phil Leng (3-27) had the hosts back in the hut for 133 all out.

Second teams

Steeton were reliant on their trio of fast bowlers – David Wynn (3-60), Joe Stead (4-52) and skipper Paul Hardwick (2-59) – at home to Ilkley, who still managed to produce an impressive total of 243 all out, thanks largely to James Pearson's 98.

At 79-6, the hosts were up against it in reply but runs down the order saw them make a game of it.

Luke Watson (35no) put on 46 with Hardwick before sharing an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 63 with top-scorer Zaggy Pearson, who smashed a fantastic 33-ball maiden 50, but Steeton ran out of time on 189-7.

Silsden's 158-5 (Andrew Pullen 33no, Hugh Sugden 36) at Bolton Villas proved insufficient as the hosts won by three wickets despite 2-35 from Joe Sugden and 2-32 from Kieran Lawrence.

Harden (83 all out) were put to the sword by visitors Illingworth in a six-wicket defeat.
