KEIGHLEY did their utmost to retrieve what looked a lost cause after being bowled out for just 70 at Hunslet Nelson.

But the hosts edged home by three wickets to leave the Lawkholme Laners struggling in second-bottom spot in Championship A.

There was little hint of what was to unfold when Keighley’s openers Andy Wear (19) and Luke Chapman (19) shared a stand of 32, but once they were parted the innings disintegrated.

All ten wickets fell for just 38 runs as Max Chappel (6-25) and Derrick Hammill (4-18) posed all sorts of problems once they were introduced to the attack.

Nelson looked in some trouble themselves at 44-5 as Maaiz Khan took 3-10 off seven overs, but Chris Anderson’s 29, the top score of the game, helped them secure victory.

Keighley head to Baildon on Saturday still looking for their first league win, though the Jenny Laners are struggling themselves just one point above them.

There was also disappointment for Keighley II, who relinquished their lead at the top of Championship A in the second-team competition.

Ahsan Alishan returned the stunning figures of 8-30 as Bowling Old Lane inflicted a first defeat of the season on their hosts and replaced them at the summit.

Openers Rory Robinson (79) and Louis Horsfield (33) looked to have provided their side with a good foundation as they shared a stand of 71, but once they were parted the innings crumbled.

Keighley's total of 144 was easily overhauled by Old Lane as they secured an eight-wicket win. Opener Zubair Najeeb made an unbeaten 60 while Aezaz Dar made 35 not out. The result drops Keighley – who host Baildon on Saturday – to fourth place, ten points adrift of the new leaders.

* Both Keighley's teams have been drawn away in the quarter-finals of their respective knockout cups.

The first team will visit East Ardsley in the Jack Hampshire Cup on Sunday, June 19, while the seconds travel to Crossbank Meths in the Wheatley Cup on the same day.
