KEIGHLEY suffered double disappointment last weekend as a heavy league defeat to high-flying Batley was followed by a semi-final exit in the Jack Hampshire Cup.

Batley returned to the top of the Bradford Premier League Championship A with a 129-run win over the Lawkholme Laners, which earned them a maximum 20 points.

James Rogers took 3-56 and Sam Murphy 2-55 for the visitors but the hosts' 236-7 proved more than enough as opener Aqeel Mukhtar scored his maiden Bradford Premier League century. He made exactly 100, with ten fours, and shared a second-wicket stand of 126 with Tariq Mehboob (53).

Keighley were bowled out for 107 in reply as Ben Hastie made 29, with Aqsad Ali (3-19) and Huzaifa Patel (4-41) the chief destroyers.

The mood was not lifted the following day when they lost by seven wickets at Buttershaw St Paul's to miss out on a place in the Jack Hampshire Cup final.

Keighley were dismissed for 185 in 39.5 overs as opener Andy Wear top-scored with 60 while Louis Horsfield made 37.

Kevin McDermott was the pick of the attack with 3-15 and he continued his influence with the bat, making 64 as he shared a second-wicket stand of 114 with Paul Carroll (48) to help speed St Paul's through in 29.5 overs.

In the final they will face Ossett, who romped to a nine-wicket victory over Adwalton.

Keighley II were given a walkover after Batley II conceded their Championship A fixture last Saturday.

Both the firsts and the seconds have no league fixture this Saturday.
