KEIGHLEY Cricket Club has promised a bigger event next year after holding its successful first beer festival.

The festival last weekend featured beers from six breweries including Naylors, Bridgehouse and Wishbone, along with a barbecue.

The club, based on Hard Ings Road, used the event to kickstart a £40,000 fundraising campaign.

The 168-year-old club plans to make essential maintenance and improvements, including new terracing, changing rooms and disabled toilets.

Committee member Paul Barker thanked everyone who went along during the weekend to support the “fabulous” cricket club.

He said: “All the profits from the beer festival will go directly to improving the club facilities.

"It takes a lot of money and effort to keep the pub running and to always strive to improve. We look forward to a bigger and better festival next year.

“In the meantime if you enjoy the game or have some time or a skill you can share with us, you will be made to feel very welcome.”

The club’s management committee will now draw up plans for future fundraising including identifying grant assistance.
