MEWIES Solicitors Craven League clubs are to be given the chance to discuss whether the Cowling Cup stays as a Twenty20 competition.

The results of a survey were inconclusive at September's league meeting, so clubs will now decide whether the second-team cup contest stays at 20 overs per side (apart from the final) or reverts, after just one season, back to 40 overs per side throughout.

Other topics up for debate at the rules revision meeting on Monday at Cross Hills Social Club (7.30pm) are whether a simple majority can get a rule changed (it is currently two-thirds), and whether bonus points should be brought in.

Under a proposed rule from the executive committee, a win would be worth ten points (instead of three), a tie five points (instead of two) and an abandoned match where there is no play three points (instead of one).

Batting bonus points would start at 125 runs (one point) up to 225 (five points), while a bowling bonus point would be earned for every two wickets taken.

An alternative proposal is that the value of a win is doubled to six points, a tie three points (instead of two) and an abandoned match after 30 overs have been played will be worth two points (rather than one), with an abandoned match where there is no play or less than 30 overs would remain at one point.

There is again a proposal to bring forward start times by half an hour to 1.30pm throughout the season, while another proposal is that the maximum number of overs per bowler per innings is 12 (rather than 15).

The fine for having no scorer could be upped from £10 to £15, while a player loan system is again on the table to help clubs who are struggling to field sides.

The loanee would always be a second or third-team player and could play in the same division or a division lower.
