THE Mewies Solicitors Craven League feel that there is no point in joining the Yorkshire Cricket Board's (YCB) pyramid system.

The Bradford League, who merged with the Central Yorkshire League last winter, the Halifax League and some former Huddersfield Central League clubs are all advocates of having the chance to better themselves via the pyramid system in West Yorkshire.

However, Craven League fixture secretary Trevor Coe said: "We would join below the Halifax League but as a league we are just in an area all of our own, and there would be nothing in the pyramid system for us.

"Our clubs don't want to go into the Halifax League or, in the north, the Nidderdale League, so what is the point in joining it (the pyramid system)?"

Alan Birkinshaw, chairman of the Yorkshire Cricket Pyramid Board, said: "Leagues are free to decide what they feel is right for their clubs but the door is always open to the Craven League should they wish to join in the future.

"Their champions could, for example, go into the Halifax League, but there is no compulsion on them to go."

Coe also feels that too much of the YCB's focus is on the pyramid system.

He added: "The YCB are going overboard with the pyramid system, and don't really want to know local volunteers any more from leagues that aren't involved in it."

Clubs discussed the pyramid system, the future of the Cowling Cup (whether it should stay as a T20 competition or revert back to 40 overs per side) and all of the other proposed rule changes at the latest league meeting at Cross Hills Social Club.

They will now use a tick-box type system to answer yes or no to every proposed rule change and return the answers in an envelope to the annual meeting on Monday, December 5, again at Cross Hills Social Club.

The votes will be counted while the annual meeting is taking place, and the results of each vote announced later in the evening.
