STEETON won local bragging rights in their first league clash with local rivals Skipton for many years.

Having been asked to bat first, the Summerhill Lane hosts racked up an impressive 283-5 which proved way beyond Skipton's grasp, the visitors being bowled out for 211.

Veteran opener John Akrigg registered a fine 46 for Steeton, adding 105 for the third wicket with Craig Walton, who went on to complete a fabulous century.

Walton finished with a fantastic 125 from 126 deliveries, including 22 fours. He also added 134 for the fourth wicket with Tom Stead, who deserved a half-century but had to settle for 49.

In reply, Skipton had reached 42 before skipper Paul Hardwick (1-36) broke the opening stand by removing his brother Adam, caught out by James Emmott for 18.

Emmott was the pick of the home bowlers, with 3-46, while Stead weighed in with 2-9 as Steeton triumphed by 72 runs.

Steeton II's suffered a defeat at Otley II after falling short on 163 all out chasing 234-7.

There was also a loss for Harden II, despite 67 from Tom Stordy in their 203-6, which hosts Horsforth reached with four wickets to spare, Ben McGonigle claiming 4-51 in vain.

Harden's first team were without a game.
