A DOUBLE century from Steve Wilkinson put paid to Steeton's hopes of victory in Aire-Wharfe League Division Two at Kirkstall.

After the hosts had won the toss and chosen to bat, the Summerhill Lane side got off to the best possible start when Steve Pearson (1-72) took a wicket with the first ball of the game.

Kirkstall struggled to 95-5 but Wilkinson’s mammoth contribution (201) helped them to 327-9, Steeton skipper Paul Hardwick taking 3-79.

The away side's reply started badly at 20-4 before opener John Akrigg (57) and Jake Starkey (36) instigated a minor revival. But when Starkey was run out, Steeton lost their last four wickets for just six runs as they slumped to 128 all out.

Tail-enders Junaid Bashir (28) and Michael Oldfield (17) helped Bolton Villas stagger to 112 in Division Three as Harden's Paul Quinlan (3-19) and Daniel Viles (3-39) impressed with the ball.

Alex Antoine (61) and Josh Brooksbank (39no) made sure there were no slip ups from Harden as they eased home by seven wickets.

There was more cheer for Steeton II, who were involved in record-breaking run feast in their win at home to North Leeds II.

The visitors surprisingly gave Steeton first use of a good Summerhill Lane track and the hosts made the most of it.

James Freebury smashed a fantastic 120 from only 57 deliveries, opener Bradley Akrigg completed a half-century (63), as did Andrew Luxton (59no) and skipper Gary Boulton (57), who showered sixes galore.

Steeton scored a huge 366-5 - 11 runs shy of a new club record highest score set at Burley-in-Wharfedale in 1989.

North Leeds were unfazed by chasing such a gigantic target but were bowled all out for 301. The aggregate total of 667 runs is now a new club and league record - smashing the club’s previous highest of 638 runs scored in a home fixture against Kirkstall in 2006 and the league’s previous best of 653 between Kirkstall and North Leeds in 2009.

Andy Bailey was the star for Harden II, taking 4-53 in helping restrict Bolton Villas to 168-8 before making 56 as they knocked the runs off with five wickets to spare.
