KEIGHLEY are up to third in Championship Division Two after defeating bottom club Brighouse with a ball to spare.

The hosts were asked to bat first at Russell Way and made a creditable 197-8 off their 47 overs in a rain-shortened match in the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League.

Brighouse, who were 31-4, were revived by Sohail Hussain (65) and Khurram Maqsood, who added 109 for the fifth wicket as James Rogers (3-37) and Nathan Storton (3-53) were the pick of the Keighley bowlers.

However, that stand was nothing compared to the effort of Keighley openers Andy Wear and Luke Chapman, who put on 166.

Skipper Wear dominated the partnership and was first out after making 103, which included 17 fours and came off only 136 balls.

Chapman, who played second fiddle with 51, was next out at 173, but the real drama was reserved for the end of the innings as Travis Nightingale (10) and Sam Murphy, who made an unbeaten 16 and hit the winning runs, got Keighley over the line by seven wickets after 46.5 overs.

Keighley II entertained ten-man Methley in Championship Division One and were asked to bat, their innings soon being interrupted by rain.

A total of 20 overs were lost, reducing the match to 35 overs per side, and Martin Walker (35),

Sam Johnson (21), Owen Narey (20), Dan Murphy (20) and Jack Rogers (19) all chipped in as the home side finished on 151-7, the pick of the Methley bowlers being Ben Waite (3-42) and Jason Baddeley (2-45).

In reply, Methley were soon struggling, losing their first four wickets for 29.

Waite was the only player to show resistance, scoring 38 runs off just 15 balls, but the innings was all over in 17.5 overs as the visitors were castled for just 67.

Pick of the Keighley bowlers were Ben Jagger (3-27), Harry Barker (2-10) and Narey (3-3).

On Saturday, Keighley's first team are at second-placed Northowram Fields, while the second team, who are up to ninth, have an equally testing encounter at home to fourth-placed Cleckheaton.
